Water is a nutrient which comprise 50 to 60 % of human body. It is generally recommended to have
8 to 12 glasses of water every day to maintain hydration levels. But there are many myths attached
with this consumption of water including following:
1. Everyone needs same amount of water
Your water requirement depends on many factors including you?re the type of training, duration of
training, body composition, sweat rate and overall lifestyle. To check the level of hydration the
easiest way is to keep the check on colour of urine. In ideal situation, urine colour should be around
pale or light yellow.
2. Drinking excess water will help you to flush toxins
Human body already have organs that constantly works to remove unwanted waste from the body.
Right hydration or fluid balance is important for the body to do overall functions effectively but
excess consumption of water is not required.
3. Being thirsty means, you are dehydrated
Thirst is the way of your body to stimulate that your water level might be going down but necessarily
not means dehydration. Many people confuse thirst with hunger, that when they are thirsty, they
feel it hunger and start eating food instead of having water. This can increase the chances of over
consumption of unwanted calories and also fluid imbalanced.
4. Drinking cold water can make you burn more calories
Studies suggest that drinking cold water makes you burn extra 8 kcal per glass. However, if you look
at bigger picture to get desired fat loss you need to take care of calorie deficient which cannot be
maintained just by having cold water.
